Graphic design...? How do I get a job in this industry?
I enjoy scrapbooking and designing power points, layouts for brochures, etc. What kind of job title would include those job duties? What kinds of companies would you recommend for this job? Can I go in as entry level?
Like if I wanted to design brochures, window coverings, logo's, layouts, powerpoints- what kind of company should I be looking for? Could I start my own business?
I am a business administrative major at a university and will graduate within a year. wouldn't mind traveling or moving... is there anywhere that these jobs are flourishing?

Open Question: I want to work for an atlas/travel/map book company as a cartographic designer?

I have an eye for map design, love it, am proficient at the adobe suite, have worked for three years making displays, brochures, and invitations for an English department at my school, won 1 award for a map, and currently getting my GIS certificate, and am a geography/sociology major.

Now, knowing this, is there anything you can tell me that will help my chances of working for such a company? Is there any other courses I should take as an elective, and where should I apply for internships? Any websites you know of?

I'm 21, female.
With this career choice, anyone know what kind of salary I'm looking at?

Resolved Question: Can you check my grammar on these travel phrases?

I am going on my honeymoon in a few weeks, and I thought I'd put together a list of phrases to help out while I'm gone. I'm going to France, Switzerland and Germany.

I have used Google Translate to produce these, and I'm sure the grammar is lacking, or at least that there might be a better/more polite way to say these. As well, if you have any suggestions for other phrases I will find helpful, that would be great!

If you could help me out, I would really appreciate it!

I speak very little French/German.
Je parle très peu le français.

Open Question: What is a commission?

This commission is related => travel agencies => travel agents
Mostly travel agents get commissions. What do commissions mean?
Additionally:
what is a profit margin?
what operations are needed to manage a travel agency? How much will that operation cost? (For example: Marketing will cost approximately $21,000 with junk mail and magazine ads)
How much money does a travel agent get in a week?
How much money does assistant, sales, branch managers get in a week?
Description of a travel agency's duty.
Do travel agents charge people?
Do travel agencies do other stuff instead of services or booking vacations or selling travel-related products?
You don't have to answer all just some of them or a lot of them! Please, because I am just 12 years old and new to everything here. There is a project that needs this info so I can use the info to assemble hard-copies such as overview sheet, company poster, letterhead, business card, itinerary, brochure, and atlas.
Due: March 17
Thank you everybody! I will post my grade later for you curious ones. :) ♥

Open Question: Is it best to book a holiday through a travel agent on the highstreet or direct with a tour company on the net?

Im planning a trip to egypt and have found the package that I want to go on which includes flights, trips and accommodation. the tour operator is Exodus which is an english company I believe. Our local travel agent gave us a brochure and I have also checked out Exodus's website. both will cost the same. Is there any extra protection from booking through a travel agent as opposed to direct with tour company.

In any case please give reasons for your answer.

Thanks

Open Question: I am interested in working as a mature model-how can I pursue it effectively here in Los Angeles?

A former New Yorker and Floridian, I recently relocated to downtown Los Angeles and am constantly told by men and women of all ages that I look like I'm in my late thirties or around 40 at most, while NOT wearing make-up ('m an AARP member and always have to show my driver license to prove my age!). At 5ft. 8", with shoulder length hair that's barely streaked with gray in the back, I'm still the same size 4 to 6 from my teens, college and twenties part-time modeling "for fun" days. I presently see many attractive mature models in magazines that cater to mature adults, admittedly more for products rather than editorial. Many fashion shows featuring (very gorgeous) senior, and dare I say it-gray-haired models (gasp!), are in upscale, retirement areas like Sarasota where I used to live or I imagine, in the one here in Southern CA (Laguna Woods).

I'm open to (and am experienced in) department store print, hair product print, runway, trade show, and tea room, garment district showroom, cruise ship and department store fashion modeling. I would like to also do catalog and travel brochure work that caters to the mature woman for publications such as such as Appleseed's or the Tog Shop, Silversea, Seabourn, or Cunard Line luxury cruise brochures, or for magazines like More or Senior Life or even the AARP magazine. The mature market is vibrant and fashionable! Baby boomer women have plenty of disposable income. We are very interested in companies, designers, stores, cultural venues, cruise lines, resorts, magazines, etc. that are interested in the upscale, fashionable mature market. We will respond favorably to ads featuring age appropriate models such as for beauty firms anti-aging creams and hair coloring products, or cruse line and resort vacations or designer cruise and evening wear. Our market is definitely not just about insurance, medical alert and denture products.

It would be very helpful to know the following:
-Which agencies or agents do these companies work with to secure their models from?
-How do I best approach them?
-Do any of the agencies/agents hold open calls?
-Do seperate agencies exist for Los Angeles Fashion District modeling (Fashion week and showroom) and trade show modeling?
-Does a book, trade paper, newsletter or service organization exist with information on opportunities for mature models and feeback from mature models consistently working?
-Do any agencies/casting agents accept unsolicited mailings?
-Are e-mailed photos preferred over hard copy mailings?
-Do I need to have my own website, blog and/or social media page(s)?
-Do I need to join the Screen Extras Guild and AFTRA in oder to be eligible for jobs in videos, commercials, training films or other films?
I have an 8 1/2" x 11 color head shot and am considering taking more photos in a variety of "looks". Thank you. for any suggestions you can offer . My e-mail address is vnews52@yahoo.com.
